About The Event
Roaring Stories Bookshop is delighted to present a special literary two-part event, taking place online this November and in-person next year.
Via Zoom on Saturday 27 November from 7pm, award-winning Australian author Anna Funder (Stasiland; All That I Am) will be in conversation with Jemma Birrell (Creative Director at Tablo, host of The Secret Life of Writers podcast, and former Artistic Director of the Sydney Writers’ Festival).
Anna and Jemma will be chatting about writing, creativity and the difficulties and rewards of mixing motherhood with a life of the mind. They will also take audience questions.
This event is a fundraiser for Mothertongues, a collaborative creative project about motherhood by Australian writers Ceridwen Dovey and Eliza Bell, featuring original music by songwriter Keppie Coutts. The Mothertongues book and audiobook is to be published by Penguin Random House in May 2022, and the funds raised through this event will go towards the cost of professional recordings of the songs for the audiobook/album.
This special event will also feature live performances of several of the Mothertongues original songs by Keppie, and short readings from the Mothertongues text by co-writers Ceridwen and Eliza.
Due to the ongoing lockdown in Sydney, this event will take place via Zoom. While we wish we could all be in a room together, we promise it to be a warm-hearted, entertaining evening full of music, ideas and stimulating conversation. Join us and help to support collaborative art-making by women.
There’s another big perk, too – your ticket to attend this Zoom event also gives you entry to the in-person, live launch of Mothertongues planned for May 2022, to be presented by Roaring Stories at our partner venue, White Bay Beer Company! Details on this second event to come.
