Bo Seo in conversation with Ceridwen Dovey

‘Good Arguments is an antidote to spin, fake news, “political correctness” and plain muddled thinking. Bo Seo teaches us how to listen and to be heard in both a healthy democracy and around the kitchen table.’ — Gillian Triggs, former President of the Australian Human Rights Commission

‘I can’t think of a more vital resource for learning to sharpen your critical thinking, accelerate your rethinking, and hone your ability to open other people’s minds. Good Arguments is the rare book that has the potential to make you smarter – and everyone around you wiser.’ — Adam Grant, #1 New York Times-bestselling author

When Bo Seo’s family migrated from South Korea to Australia, he was a timid and conflict-averse child. Today, he is a two-time world champion debater, who has mastered the power of effective and civil debate to open up healthy conversations and enable better understandings on both sides. His new book Good Arguments is the essential guide to our increasingly polarised world of echo chambers, toxic hostilities, rampant misinformation, online tribes and ideological bubbles.

On Tuesday 28 June, join Seo as he shares secrets behind the art of good debate with Ceridwen Dovey, the award-winning Sydney-based writer, whose most recent book is the co-authored Mothertongues.

Attendees are asked to arrive at 6.30pm or earlier for a 7pm start upstairs at The Royal Oak Balmain. Seating is unallocated – another reason to arrive early to secure an optimal spot. Why not make a full evening of it, too, by booking a meal at the Royal Oak before or after the event? One of Balmain’s oldest and best-known pubs, it serves a delicious range of food and beverages.

Good Arguments will be available for purchase at the venue through Roaring Stories, with book signings from Daley following the discussion.

If you miss out on a ticket, you can still watch the event as it is livestreamed from the Roaring Stories Facebook page (accessible on the Home page and from the Live tab). A recording will also be available to view later as an upload on the Roaring Stories YouTube channel.
