Book launch: The Sitter by Angela O’Keeffe

‘Phenomenal. A remarkable feat and enthralling work, The Sitter is elegantly constructed – a book that weaves between reality and unreality and wonder with supreme ease …The historical aspects are fascinating, the contemporary scenes compelling. O’Keeffe’s work floats. I was utterly spellbound.’ — Michelle Johnston

‘Meditative and elegant, The Sitter by Angela O’Keeffe is the story of two women who find themselves in the study of each other. Their stories, their connections, are beautifully layered in this touching novel.’ — Mirandi Riwoe

‘Hortense transcends time, language and country to narrate this strange and beautiful hallucination on the endlessly shifting boundary between art and life.’ — Fiona Kelly McGregor

Join us on Thursday 3 August at the Royal Oak to celebrate the highly anticipated and highly original new book by Angela O’Keeffe, a novel narrated by Hortense Cezanne, the wife of the celebrated artist. O’Keeffe will be in conversation on the book with Susan Wyndham, the former literary editor of The Sydney Morning Herald.

Copies of The Sitter (out 1 August with UQP) will be available for purchase at the venue through Roaring Stories, with O’Keeffe signing copies after the discussion.

Attendees are asked to arrive at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Seating is unallocated – another reason to arrive early to secure an optimal spot. Why not make a full evening of it, too, by ordering a meal at the Royal Oak before or after the event? One of Balmain’s oldest and most loved pubs, it serves a delicious range of food and beverages.

If you miss out on a ticket, you can still watch the event as it is livestreamed from the Roaring Stories Facebook page (accessible on the Home page and from the Live tab). A recording will also be available to view later as an upload on the Roaring Stories YouTube channel.
