Sarah Day in conversation with Sarah Holland-Batt

‘Sarah Day’s poems… enable me, the reader, to recapture the lost intensity of my own perceptions. And the words are chosen to detonate differently each time I come to rest on them.’ — Robert Dessaix

‘Going back as far as James McAuley and Gwen Harwood, Tasmania has always had more excellent poets than its population might suggest. Sarah Day, since A Hunger to be Less Serious, her first book in 1987, has always been in this league…[Slack Tide] is packed with memorable poems, remarkable for their emotional depth.’ — The Canberra Times

Please join us on Tuesday 11 April to celebrate the Sydney launch of Slack Tide, Sarah Day’s ninth collection of poems, published by Pitt St Poetry.

Day will be in conversation with renowned contemporary Australian poet Sarah Holland-Batt, who was recently shortlisted for the 2023 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards for her latest book, The Jaguar.

There will be readings from Slack Tide throughout the evening, with food and drinks available for purchase at the bar.

Slack Tide will be available for purchase at the venue through Roaring Stories, along with a range of other poetry books, with signings from Day following the discussion.

Attendees are asked to arrive at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Seating is unallocated – another reason to arrive early to secure an optimal spot. Why not make a full evening of it, too, by ordering a meal at the Royal Oak before or after the event? One of Balmain’s oldest and most loved pubs, it serves a delicious range of food and beverages.

If you miss out on a ticket, you can still watch the event as it is livestreamed from the Roaring Stories Facebook page (accessible on the Home page and from the Live tab). A recording will also be available to view later as an upload on the Roaring Stories YouTube channel.
